EXTRANEOUS MATTER ANALYSIS

Market Survey: FLOUR

Of all the products tested for filth, flour is analyzed the most. It is the main ingredient in many of the products we buy and is easily purchased at the retail level. However, an analyst may not be able to judge the quality based on seasonal ranges. For this reason Central Hudson Lab will purchase and test a different brand of flour each month. The results of our filth analysis will be published three times a year, providing a "guide" for the user (consumer or food processor) as to what is in the market place for that time of year.

Opinion: (01/01/02)
For the year 2001.

Five samples are National Brands, six samples are Store Brands and one sample is an Imported Brand. 42% of the brands surveyed in 2001 violated the Defect Action Level (DAL's) as set by the U.S. Government through the FDA. The Quality Control System that is in place is not working. Product in violation of DAL's is not to be placed on the market for sale to the public.
